Novel Effect App Adds Sound Effects

Just in time for Halloween, the free Novel Effect app adds sound effects, music, and character sounds that help to bring "The Littlest Pumpkin" to life for young children who are blind or visually impaired.

Novel Effect has announced a partnership with the American Printing House (APH) for the Blind that brings their classic tale, The Littlest Pumpkin, to life with voice-driven music, sound effects and the voice of the littlest pumpkin himself!  This free app syncs music, character voices and sound effects in real time as you read aloud.

The Littlest Pumpkin soundscape compliments the tactile features and teaching concepts within the book. Composers added enhancements to the story of a pumpkin that isn’t chosen to become a jack-o-lantern that include:
  • Environmental audio clues replicating sounds in an actual pumpkin patch
  • Sound effects paired to accompanying tactile features like shapes and sizes
  • Littlest pumpkin’s reactions to the story as it is read aloud

The Littlest Pumpkin

This is the first book to be released in this partnership.  The companies aim to release other titles in the future to further promote multi-sensory learning for early readers with visual impairment.
