Durable Braille Flashcards

These durable braille flashcards can be made on blank playing cards, which are available online from Amazon.  They emboss well and make high quality braille on a plastic card. 

They come in packs of 180 and can be used with permanent markers and pens, so they are useful for students with low vision, or for activities with both print and braille readers.  They measure 2.5″ x 3.5″.

It saves so much time not to have to laminate to extend life AND the plastic has a matte finish, so it isn’t slick or shiny. You can take them to a print shop and ask them to trim the corners off.  Leave the wrapper on until they are done, slice one cut per deck, and they are ready!  (We usually trim the upper right corner, so that students can orient the word correctly and know which is the top/bottom, left/right.)

In addition to regular flashcards, you can use these cards to make games, such as Sight Word Bingo or Concentration.  You can also use markers to color code groups of cards. I hold the stack tight and color the edge where the corners are clipped.  The cards come in different shapes (hexagons and squares) and I plan to experiment with these as well.
