Creating Tactile Books to Teach Single Letter Contractions

Single letter contraction books for students learning braille

This book was made in house to teach the contraction “but” using the single letter “b”. The books are made on lightweight cardboard for durability since items are often glued to the pages and regular paper wouldn’t hold up. Books are kept small in size (8″ x 5″) and to about 6-8 pages and comb bound.

  • lightweight cardboard
  • braille labels
  • small items for tactile illustrations
  • glue
  • binding

This book provides good practice and reinforcement after students have been exposed to single letter contractions.  Include the student in creating the book or create it first and present it during a lesson.
