Using Bookshare to Develop Reading Skills

Girl reading on Bookshare

Valerie Chernek presents the stories of two children who use Bookshare, which is an accessible online library for students with print disabilities.  Connor is a 7th grade boy who has Cerebral Palsy whose communication and reading improved as a result of access to digital accessible books through Bookshare.  Finley is a 6-year-old girl with LCA (Leber's Congenital Amaurosis) who uses enlarged font, as well as the audio books available through Bookshare.  As a dual media learner, Bookshare gives her a way to use different media to practice her reading skills.
