Online Version of Michigan Severity Rating Scales Now Available

The Michigan Severity Rating Scales are designed to help educational teams to determine the service needs for students who are blind or visually impaired.

Revised in 2013, the Michigan Severity Rating Scales are all now available to be filled in on a computer or iPad.  These scales are intended to assist the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team in the selection of a vision service delivery model for existing students, as well as those who are newly identified as visually impaired.  The Severity of Need in each of the scales is sequentially structured to correlate the degree of need for intervention/instruction from a TVI, based on the severity of a student’s visual impairment and educational needs.

The Vision Services Severity Rating Scale (VSSRS), and Vision Services Severity Rating Scale for Students with Additional Needs (VSSRS+) and Orientation and Mobility Severity Rating Scale (O&MSRS), Orientation and Mobility Severity Rating Scale for Students with Additional Needs (O&MSRS+)  are available as fillable forms are on the Michigan Department of Education Low Incidence Outreach website.
